Being young could be painful because this is the age when everyone starts to feel pressure from family and society to do something, to find passion but no one talks about what if you don’t have passion? Is that a problem if you don’t know what to do in your life?
The next few minutes of your life are going to be about my experience with how I found my passion and how you can find yours.
Okay, so if you don’t know me yet, my name is Rohit Prasad. I am 18 years old (preparing for my board’s examination). I have not been good at studies since childhood. I was that type of student who used to sit on the last corner bench but still, everyone liked me because I was funny and people around me felt cheerful. However, when I grew up everything changed, so let me take you into the deep ocean of my thoughts.
“Find your passion, act your age” is something you hear a lot. There is always someone who reminds you that you are growing up and you need to focus on your future. Just like most of you, I was growing up unaware of my abilities. I didn’t know what to do in my life but “now I do”. I wouldn’t say there was a particular moment that I can pinpoint and say this was the moment when the idea hit my brain but I will say there were some moments when my heart appealing me “I can’t do anymore”.
Since the beginning of my childhood, I was not good at my studies. I remember my teachers used to complain to my mother that I don’t study, I talk too much, etc. When I was in class 8, my father decided to put me in a boarding school. I tried to fight for my speaking rights but I failed and he won. So I spent three years of my life in boarding school.
When my father decided to send me away from home I was very angry at him but looking back I’ll say “he did right” because those three years changed me a lot. Every time when I used to come home from my hostel, I was a different person. I was more mature, better at my studies but still unaware of my passion and my goal.
If you are a parent reading this and think your child condition is similar to mine then you should talk to children to identify their goals.

After graduating from boarding school it was time for me to choose a better school in Kolkata and a field I can pursue. In India, I think, most of the students don’t know what they really want to do in their life. So, I asked my siblings and my seniors. Some people said to go for science because there are a lot of options after the 12th. Some said if you want to go for the corporate sector then you can choose commerce. They gave me their opinion according to their perspective.
I decided to go for commerce not because I wanted to be a CA but because I wanted to learn accounting cause I thought it is fancy.
Somehow commerce was pretty easy for me and it was also fun to learn about the economy and business. A year passed and I got into class 12th and the lockdown happened. Just like many people, I had few struggles during lockdown but there were many good and happy feelings because I was able to spend time at home with my whole family. After one or two months of lockdown, there was nothing to do. All I can do is use my phone or talk to my friends.
I started getting fed up with this so I decided to start something creative and the only thing that popped up in my mind was to create a YouTube channel. I never wanted to be a YouTuber but there was a lot of spare time and I wanted to use this time so I started making and uploading videos. I started this to use my spare time but after uploading some videos I observed that my videos are not getting views. I was stubborn and said to myself“ I will do it” and even after uploading so many videos nothing changed the condition was the same as before.
Everyone told me you can’t do it so you should leave it and do something else. Only my mother used to say “ if you think you can do it then you can I know you”. So I didn’t give up and I almost worked for 5 months continuously with no result. During this five-month the thought of quitting always used to pop off into my mind but somewhere in my heart there was this feeling that my content is good and one day I’ll be a YouTuber.
Suddenly my video started getting viral and within 2 months my channel hit a lot of subscribers. But like other channels, my channel doesn’t have a happy ending because after hitting my milestone I quit uploading videos, and those people who used to told me “you can’t do it” started saying “why you are not doing it”.
My answer is I stopped because I found what I want to be in my life. You must be thinking about why I quit YouTube after hitting a lot of subscribers and where I found my goal. So the thing is when I started making videos it was fun for me and I used to love whatever I did but now I don’t enjoy it anymore because this is not what I want.
During the process of making videos, I found out that I am very good at graphics and I would love to become a graphic designer. The thought of being a graphic designer filled me with joy. I don’t know I will get it or not but I know I can try whatever it takes.

First of all it’s totally ok if you don’t know what to do in your life, it’s ok if you don’t have a passion. But if you want to know ask yourself this “what do you want the most in your life?”
For most of us, it’s happiness, it’s love. To feel satisfied with the choices you made.
But the truth is that there is no roadmap to get there. You have your own dream, talent, experience as I have mine. This mean we all find happiness and love in different things. Everyone has a different perspective. We make choices based on our own experiences and perspective. But what if you fail? What if you mess up ?
Sometimes it’s important to fail because whenever you fail you will have an experience and that experience will give you another opportunity to succeed. So, don’t afraid to fail. Try whatever you want to do. You are young and energetic. You can do whatever you want in your life. But never give up. One day you are gonna get there and always remember one thing it’s ok if you don’t know what to do in your life just find happiness in your work.
